HARRIETT STELLA

Kia Ora! I’m Harriett, a young freelance director based in Auckland. I’m represented commercially by Film Construction. My work is always informed by my passion for performance directing, and my desire to tell stories that centre around human connection.

I have a background in formal theatre training, performed on the Globe Stage in London and starred in a webseries before realising my true calling is on the other side of the process. In 2015, I was AUT’s Television and Screen Production graduate of the year. My graduating film, ANNA, has been recognised and awarded internationally. I won the Jury Choice Award at the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase, and ANNA continues to tour the world in a festival celebrating disability. My second short film, Lani’s Space, won the Special Category Award at the Houston Cinema Arts Festival - a competition run by NASA and judged by Richard Linklater.

In addition to directing, I also work as a casting director for TVCs. This breadth of experience gives me a holistic understanding of the film industry, and enables me to be a comprehensive and empathetic director.
